Steam cleaners use a boiler to heat tap water to high temperatures (240 degrees and higher) causing the water to be transformed into a very fine, dry steam vapor. The vapor is made up of about 6 to 8% water, so surfaces dry quickly. The vapor particles are microscopic in size allowing the ability to disinfect, clean and sanitize in cracks and crevices that chemical-based cleaners cannot reach. In 2005, the University of Washington test said “the steam vapor’s low moisture and high temperature provides deeper cleaning because it penetrates into the pores and crevices better than topically applied cleaners”.
